Day Twenty Three | 31 Days of Thanksgiving
Today’s post is about the town that I call home.
And that town is Plymouth, Michigan.
I moved to Plymouth in 1997, and I consider that one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I’m one of those “not quite suburban, not quite inner city” people, and Plymouth fills that void perfectly for me. I live six blocks from the heart of the downtown area, and it’s the absolute perfect walking distance for me.
In fact, I walk my dog downtown every morning and every evening, and having the ability to do that in such a picturesque place like Plymouth is yet another thing for which I am thankful.
And not only that, but, a few years after moving here, I relocated my business – Professional One Real Estate – here because I love the town that much. Don’t hate me, but I can walk to my office, and, when I drive, it takes me MAYBE two minutes. And that’s if there is traffic.
So, what do I love about Plymouth? Where to begin? Here are a few of the things I love the most:
Kellogg Park with its signature fountain (at right)- The Plymouth Ice Carving Festival, which draws the world’s finest ice carvers from literally all over the world
- The “Music in the Park” events that draw large crowds into Kellogg Park on Friday nights during the summer
- The Fall Festival in early September
- The Plymouth Chili Cookoff/biker event in October
- The myriad of great dining spots, including Fiama, Compari’s, EG Nicks and many other places
- The great nightlife, including The Rock Bar, 336 Main, The Ironwood and several others
- Its proximity to Hines Park, one of the crown jewels of Metro Detroit
- Its proximity in general – 15 minutes from Ann Arbor, 20 minutes to the airport and 30 minutes from downtown Detroit – is absolutely ideal
- The overall vibe and ambiance of the city. It’s just a really, really cool place, a perfect mixture of old and new, casual and upscale, and urban and suburban
The bottom line: I am thankful for Plymouth. I feel blessed to live in such a great community!
Someone shot a little video of me a few weeks ago completely randomly, and they happened to ask me about Plymouth. Here’s what I had to say then, having no idea I’d be writing this post today:
